We can be proud of very famous women, but they can’t hug you, they can’t talk to you as a normal person. That’s what (girls) need—a role model that is one of them.
Growing up as part of a large family in Lipjan, a village in southern Kosovo, Adelina Tërshani recognized the pressures that traditional value systems place on women in rural Kosovo, early on and turned to slam poetry as a means to challenge the sexism she says she faced. Now, at 21-years-old, Tërshani is rapidly becoming one of the most recognizable voices of the feminist movement in Kosovo.
