Director, Center for Promoting Women's Rights
Our goal was to plan trips for survivors, to not leave them alone in their homes, to not let them be overwhelmed by silence.
Kadire Tahiraj is the director of the Center for the Promotion of Women’s Rights in Drenas, which she founded in 2013, but her work as an advocate for survivors of sexual violence dates back to 1998. In the years immediately following the war Tahiraj worked in secrecy to provide survivors in Drenas with resources and support at a time when stigma surrounding sexual violence prevented women from speaking about their assaults. Initially, Tahiraj funded the work entirely through the sale of handmade crafts, which she continues to sell today.
