Haveit Performance/Protest Group
We feel safe with each other and that's why we do this. But we are not safe here, and we cannot pretend that we are. In art, it's important to be honest. It's really hard to be creative when you live in a country where you have basic needs that are not fulfilled.
Lola Sylaj is a founding member of Haveit collective, a group made up of four artists (two pairs of sisters) that came together in 2011 after a woman was murdered by her ex-husband in broad daylight. Frustrated by the lack of attention and outrage in response to violence against women and marginalized communities, HaveIt stages acts of performance art in public spaces to call attention to social issues plaguing Kosovar society.
